Love
If two were one, then surely we,
Muses that sing love’s sensual empery.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
To let base clouds o’er take me in my way.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height,
And all that’s best of dark and night.
Let us embrace:
Let there be only your lips’ breath on my face.
You leant to me a moment, crying – ‘Sing
If, as you say, you love me, sing with these’-
Love, till dawn sunder night from day with fire
Dividing my delight and my desire,
Lie closer, lean your face upon my side.
Love me through dusk begin and dark retire.
Ah God, ah God, that day be soon.
