My real name is Africa
Don’t be fooled by the colors you
see on me
The hazels and golds and yellows
reflect my name to be Europe
But if you listen to my heart,
you can hear the drums of the motherland
Yesterday, my name was South Africa
Separated from all who had a
different color of skin
I was beaten to one side
of life
Not able to look at all the
colorful races
Taught to hate all who didn’t have
Melanin in their skin
Today my name is Egypt
Exotic as a gemstone
Tall as the pyramids
Welcome arms and doors for
All to explore my intricate, artistic styles
The world thinks my name is Africa and Europe
With my biracial features and proper
use of English
Brittany is a beautiful lake in France
Larraine is a state east of the Eiffel Tower
Ciccotti comes from the land of spaghettis and pastas
But my name is Nigeria
With my hair as thick as molasses
And my nose wide as the elephants
Stomping around Madagascar
A Nubian Queen with a European shadow
An African spirit with a bright outer shell
A proud black woman is what I am
My Name is Africa

I liked how you linked your poem to the place you love the most. It all fits really nicely.

Oh I loved that part~
This was a very lovely bit of work ^-^ I love how you make references to both Africa AND Egypt, really nice touch, and especially when you talk of Nubia! You're very talented, ever thought of publishing the work you do? Well, you should!
Do you really have a Nubian back ground? o.o If so, then that's pretty cool, if not, it's still full of awesome~ ^-^

I read this poem last week when Ms Hahn sent a link to the teachers celebrating your publication. It is INCREDIBLE. I wish I had the gift of word choice and flow that you do.
